But also management had already recognized that the existing model <a href=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/1791\/mercedes-770-w07-grosser\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">770 W07<\/a> due to its conservative suspension with rigid axles front and rear, no longer met the company&#8217;s technical standards. By now the entire range of passenger and racing cars had been converted to designs with independent front and rear suspensions. After all Mercedes-Benz had been a major player in the field of advanced passenger car technology since 1931, when it introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mercedes-Benz_W15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">170 model<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/770-W150-Cabrio-B-1940-Crown-Prince-of-Iran.jpg\" alt=\"Mercedes 770 W150, Cabrio B\" class=\"wp-image-1818\" srcset=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/770-W150-Cabrio-B-1940-Crown-Prince-of-Iran.jpg 750w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/770-W150-Cabrio-B-1940-Crown-Prince-of-Iran-600x372.jpg 600w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/770-W150-Cabrio-B-1940-Crown-Prince-of-Iran-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>A 770 Cabriolet B from 1940<\/em>,<em> of which just one unit was produced<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, in February 1938, at the IAMA International Motor Show in Berlin, the evolutionary stage of the &#8220;Grosser&#8221;, known internally as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1Xa8dLni3RY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">W150<\/a>, was unveiled. The car, which continued to be called Mercedes <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mercedes-Benz_770\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">770<\/a> (without K!), manifested the art of automotive engineering to perfection.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-engine-2.jpg\" alt=\"Mercedes 770 W150, engine\" class=\"wp-image-1836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-engine-2.jpg 550w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-engine-2-300x194.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The engine of the Mercedes 770 W150 was updated<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The engine remained unchanged in its dimensions, but underwent a number of modifications. The crankcase was now completely made of light alloy, the exhaust valves were sodium-cooled, the ignition control was automatic and the water pump was rigidly driven by the oil pump shaft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The appearance of the engine had also seen upgrades. This one is armor-plated<\/em>, <em>a total of 18 units were produced<\/em>, <em>which made it after the Open Tourer the second most produced version<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior.jpg\" alt=\"Mercedes 770 W150, Pullman\" class=\"wp-image-1832\" srcset=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior.jpg 550w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior-300x220.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>All <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pullman_(car_or_coach)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pullman<\/a> cars came with a partition and as with all these cars, seating was most generous<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"341\" src=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior-2-1939.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior-2-1939.jpg 550w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Pullman-interior-2-1939-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the Mercedes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conceptcarz.com\/z24179\/mercedes-benz-770-w150.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">770 W150<\/a> the supercharger was now standard and was made more efficient. In naturally aspirated mode the engine developed 155 hp, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Supercharger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">supercharger<\/a> engaged this figure rose to 230 hp. This extra power was needed because the car had a curb weight of around 3,500 kg, depending on the body style. This increased to about 4,600 kg when the car was armored. The chassis side members, made of oval tube, were joined with six cylindrical cross members to form a torsion-resistant ladder-type frame. The individually coil-sprung front wheels were supported by A-frame arms arranged in a parallelogram. The rear axle was designed according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/De_Dion_suspension\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">De Dion<\/a> principle, but <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mercedes-Benz_Group#1926%E2%80%931998:_Daimler-Benz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daimler-Benz<\/a> called it the &#8220;laterally stable parallel-wheel axle&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"293\" src=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Sedan-armored-1.jpg\" alt=\"Mercedes 770 W150 Sedan\" class=\"wp-image-1821\" srcset=\"https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Sedan-armored-1.jpg 550w, https:\/\/benz-books.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Mercedes-770-W150-Sedan-armored-1-300x160.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>An armor-plated Sedan, of which ten were produced. Some of these cars remained in service until the late 1960s. A number of them can still be found in museums and private collections.
